Sew Krafty

Sew Krafty 1Your name: Sarah Markwell-Cook (Sew Krafty)

Tell us a little bit about what you do.
I do decoupage cards which I can personalise on the stall for customers. I make sock creatures and stuffed dolls and animals.

How did it all start?
I have always been crafty, especially with embroidery as I was growing up. I used to embroider all my Christmas and Birthday cards for friends and family.
I started doing by sharing a stall at the Stamford craft markets in the High Street with my friend Janet Steele – we were “Krafty Kats”. We then expanded into “Sew Krafty” and “Mad Hatter Krafts” when we joined the Guild.

What do you enjoy most about what you do?
I love doing fairs, as it is my hobby, and how I relax after working full time. I enjoy spending time with the other Crafters, and have made new friends.

Sew Krafty 3

What motivates you? What inspires you?
I just love to craft as a form of relaxation.

What frustrates you?
When the finished article does not look quite right.

How and where do you sell your creations?
Craft fairs and a few regular customers

How do you promote your work?
Business cards on the stall, and the Stamford Artisans Guild website

Any plans for expanding the business?
No as this is my hobby and I dont want the enjoyment spoiled by unnecessary pressure

Any thoughts you would like to share with all fellow crafters?
Just enjoy what you do and take pleasure from it.

If you wanted to expand your set of skills or learn a new craft what would it be?
I have recently been encouraged to purchase a sewing machine and start sewing again after fifteen years , and have thoroughly enjoyed producing a family of animals and sock creatures.

Tell us about any craft events, exhibitions etc you are doing in the next 12 months.
I am doing Guild events in Oakham, Stamford and Fineshade Woods.

Do you sell through any retail outlets?

  • Dear Sarah,

I am co-ordinating the annual Green Festival in Peterborough this year. I’m currently looking for local artists, crafters and photographers who might like to sell their products at the festival launch day, held right in the city centre on 25th May.

The price for a pitch will be around £30 (prices will be finalised soon). We can provide tables and chairs but keep in mind that the event is held outside so we advise all stall holders to bring their own gazebo or covering. Thousands of people pass through on the launch day so this is a great opportunity to sell directly to the public. If you are interested in coming along please pop me an email at any time!

    Hi there

I am part of the fundraising committee for our local school at Waltham-on-the-Wolds, between Melton and Grantham, and we are holding a Christmas Fayre on Saturday 26th November from 3pm – 5pm. We are inviting local, good quality businesses to showcase their products and services and expect a really good footfall due to the extensive publicity and free entry for visitors.

I was emailing to find out if you might be interested in exhibiting at the event.

I can send you some more information if this is something of interest to you and I look forward to hearing from you soon,

    Kind regards,
